Introduction to John's Old Photos 1967-1975

I took the following photographs between 1967 and 1975. I used my trusty Polaroid camera, which I had for my first year in college, to take the early ones. I shot most with my Nikon 35mm camera. Normally, I shot black and white film. Most of those did not survive the years. I stored them at my brother's house and when he moved he threw them out. What a loss. I shot the other photographs using Ektachrome and Kodachrome. I never shot color film. I stored the slides in slide trays and kept them safely in their boxes inside two cardboard boxes in a dry, cool, seldom visited area in our house. The black and white photos survived because I kept them in photo albums at my mother's residence. When she passed I rediscovered them.

The photos from In Search for the Perfect Glissade trips are in slide form. They are in good condition and scanned well. I did not take the time to adjust or enhance them in Photoshop. When I rediscovered them recently while adding rigid insulation to the storage area, I was overwhelmed, recalling memories of my youth. I immediately thought you would enjoy looking back on a special collection of people and a memorable time in our lives. My second thought was that I need to preserve and share my past, not store it in boxes. Hence, the blog.

The sequence of the slides are according to the numbers printed on them. The dates on the slides are according to when I had them developed. I wrote the outings they represented on the slide containers and included the month and year. I tried my best to keep them in order. The sequence on the blog is the earliest trips are at the bottom. Scroll through and find the ones you think you participated in. I marked the Glissade class trips with "Glissade". The earliest outings are outings prior to the class.

Remarkably, there was only one accident in all of the trips and that was due to ice on a glissade. Looking at the faces in the photos, I would say everyone had an enjoyable time each and every outing. As far as the class outings go, we had wonderful weather conditions.

Thanks for being part of an important period in my life. I hope someday you may join me on another trail.

We know ourselves better by understanding our past.
